Namsai, 10th February, 2025:
The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) Meeting of ICAR - Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Namsai was held on 10th February, 2025 in the KVK Namsai conference hall.
The SAC meeting was aimed to deliberate on the action plan for 2025-2026 and review the achievements of 2024.
The meeting was chaired by Shri Gabriel D. Wangsu, Honorable Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture, AH&V and allied of Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
In the presence of Dr. L. Wangchu, HoRC, ICAR AP Centre, Basar and host of other distinguished dignitaries Shri C. R. Khampa, D.C., Namsai. Dr. K. Sarmah, DVO, Ms. Joram Rupa, Assistant Director Fishery,
Ms. Rupa Mannow, SDAO, Namsai; T. Thingnok, PD ATMA, Kherem, Mr. Pritom Chakraborty, SFO, Spices Board and farmers; Dr. Utpal Barua, Senior Scientist Head of KVK presented the accomplished works and achievements
of KVK Namsai for the year 2024. The meeting was organized in hybrid mode. Dr. S. Basanta Singh, Principal Scientist & Nodal Officer KVKs, ICAR, Umiam and Dr. Bagish Kumar, Nodal Officer, ATARI VI, Guwahati joined
the deliberations of the meeting virtually.
This was followed by presentation and thorough discussion on Annual Action Plan 2025-26 during the presentations made on Animal Science, Plant Protection, Agricultural
Extension and Agronomy by Subject Matter Specialists Dr. B.K.D. Bora, Dr. M. S Bora, Ms. S Sahani and Mr. K. Nithinkumar respectively.
While making his remarks, Honorable Minister mentioned about the immense arable land available in the district which presents opportunity for development of agriculture
and allied enterprises in Namsai. He pointed out to the issue of unavailability of good quality “feed, seed and sucker” for the farming community. He gave his valued inputs in suggesting trials on pig breed ‘Rani’, upskilling
of district farmers for mushroom spawn production, bridging the productivity gap of various crops through introduction of good quality seeds from premier ICAR institutes. He also pointed out that despite of having huge potential
for potato production, yet blight diseases pose a serious challenge to this. It was also emphasised to conserve local germplasms, promotion of vermicompost and other compost methods to efficient utilization of farm and kitchen waste
for additional income and soil fertility management.
The Deputy Commissioner recommended that critical field observations and experience of line departments can be incorporated in the action plan of the KVK. He noted that potential for
agriculture in Namsai can be achieved through need based technology dissemination along with assessment of marketing constraints.
Dr. L. Wangchu suggested incorporation of citrus greening, dry root rot related solutions in the on-farm-testing. Spice Board representative advocated about spreading awareness regarding seed treatment of ginger to prevent soft rot.
Enriched by the inputs received from participating progressive farmers the SAC reaffirmed its commitment to enhance agricultural productivity and farmers’ welfare through innovative practices and collaborative efforts in the coming year.
